The Health & Environment Division was founded in 1868 and regarded as momentous due to its relevance to the public health conditions in the city and its direct impact on the quality of life of the citizens. It encompasses four main sections each carries out different duties and responsibilities managed and administered by a total number of 248 staff members distributed among the following units:

• Health Inspection Unit: this unit is responsible for periodic inspection on public markets, factories, restaurants, meet-shops with an aim of combating non-valid and expired commodities.
• Solid Waste Management: it collects, transports and disposes the solid waste from all parts of the city.
• Insects Fighting: this unit combats insects and bugs and purge out lost dogs in addition its supervisory functions on the public parks and the swimming pools.
• Cemeteries and Funeral Services: it supervises the four cemeteries of the city,   ensures their hygiene, and undertakes necessary arrangement for registration and burying procedures.

The Division executed several vital projects namely; Cooperative Improving Environment; The Medical Dumpster; The Spanish Machinery; and Waster Disposal Containers.
