The Engineering Department has been founded with the establishment of the municipality since 1869. The department is a key player in decision making process at the strategic level due to its vivid contribution to the economic development of the city. Engineering services encompasses strategic and structural planning that is applicable for modification and/or change so that to cope with evolving social, economic and political circumstances encounter the city and in accordance to citizens’ needs.

The Engineering Department performs sprawling responsibilities including construction and development of Nablus’ infrastructure such as roads construction, retaining walls, public buildings and establishing schools. One of the major achievements of this department is the establishment of an income-generating project namely; the Commercial Development Center located in the city center which considered a land mark of Palestine. Several divisions perform under the direct supervision of this Department: Public Works Division, Maintenance, Studies, Survey, Drawing, Publishing, GIS and Planning Divisions.

The department is being managed by 219 staff members including 24 engineers.
